operation holiday card

Before leaving Cleveland, my aunt asked if I could take AJ + Jenna’s photo for their annual holiday card.  I’m really trying to expand my photography from just being able to shoot food.

It was extremely rainy + dreary the majority of my stay in Cleveland.  Yesterday, when I was walking home from the gym, I realized how pretty the neighborhood looked.  Fall is in full force!  I thought it would be fun to take some rainy day photos.  The lighting actually worked out really well, and I’m excited about how they turned out.

It’s completely different shooting people in comparison to food!!

I love all your photography of food and look to your website for inspiration and ideas! So it's no wonder that your photography of people turned out just as great. I am huge fan of fall colors and rainy days- I love how your photos have that great fall feeling along with the cool rainy day look. Yet they the photos are still nice and vibrant- not rainy day dull and dreary. Great job, keep up all the good work :)

Your cousins are ADORABLE! I can't stop thinking about their costumes from your dinner party :) What are the major differences between food and people. Obviously a lot...but any WAY major ones?

Great shots Ash! I know what you mean about shooting different subjects; I'm definitely much more comfortable with nature shots than food and especially people. I am working on the second two though because I really want to become a more well-rounded photographer. I especially love the last three :)

What lovely photos!!!

Anything that moves is much harder to photograph than food. My dogs are prefect examples.

You did GREAT!! Those photographs are fantastic. I want to learn more than food too, but nobody I know lets me take their picture haha.

Great photos!
It is definitely more difficult to photograph things in motion than food!

So cute! You are a great people-photographer too :)

Great pics! It was rainy on my wedding day and the photographer said it was the best light he'd had for shooting. He was right, our pics are awesome!

Great pictures! I agree - taking pictures of actual people is much different. (usually) my food isn't moving! :)

Unless it's soup or something? :)

Thanks Heather!! soooo much to learn

Oh gosh...not only are you worried about getting the camera settings right, you want your subjects to look natural and you have to make sure their eyes are open or hair isn't sticking up weird, etc. SO much to notice! Gotta be on your toes :)

This means so much Claire!! Thank you :)

Those pics are really great. Now I must ask...what was your ISO at? haha. They are super sharp and the lighting was really nice. Were you using the nifty fifty?

I'm shooting a coworker's wedding in a few weeks. I'm pretty nervous. any tips on shooting people?

Great job!

Hmmm, I don't remember exactly...again, I try to keep it as low as possible. I think it was either at 200 or 400. I had to keep the shutter speed up a little higher than normal b/c they were walking towards me. Like I said, I typically keep it around 100 with food, but I tried to keep it quite a bit higher shooting them. hmmmm...tips? I need some tips myself! I'll let you know if I come across anything helpful!
