pineapple orange banana smoothie

I’ve been on a smoothie hiatus for far too long.

Winter + its coldness is to blame.

But, I’m over it.

They’re delicious and worth it.

Chris is under the weather, and I’ve been working 24/7 on the new blog.  We’re both in need of quick + nutrient dense meals + snacks.

I have learned a lot about blogging in the past 2 years.  Way more than I ever thought.  The new site setup has actually been fairly easy.  I’ve been plunking away, getting things placed how I want them, but it’s the more technical things that send me into a tizzy.

  • name servers
  • CNAME
  • domain mapping
  • pointing
  • redirects
  • permalinks
  • slugs

You should see all of the pages I have open right now.

Wait, I can show you.

I’m at the point in the night where I just can’t read anything else.

So let’s chat about this whole smoothie thing.  Quickly.

Chris + I are both currently addicted to this combination.  It’s great for sick husbands and great for in-a-hurry, currently-pulling-their-hair-out wives.

Pineapple Orange Banana Smoothie [yields 1 giant smoothie]

  • 1c ice
  • 1-1.5c Orange juice [100% juice]
  • 1/2c plain yogurt
  • 1T chia seeds
  • 1 med-large banana
  • 1 1/4c frozen pineapple
  • 1t maca powder [opt]
  1. Blend until smooth, starting with 1c of OJ.  Add more to thin out to your liking.

This will give a nice kick in the pants to any cold or stress you’re experiencing.

Feel free to make it green, with 3-4 cups of spinach.

I mean, you can’t taste it, so why not?

I froze one batch into popsicles.

Time to dig in and give the brain a rest.

Night!

Ashley

I was thrilled to see The Edible Perspective nominated for, The Best Healthy Cooking Blog, with The Kitchn!  What an amazing list of nominees!  Voting ends March 2nd, so be sure to check it out.

I can clearly see why you are addicted. I love smoothies with OJ and pineapple. The greens additions sounds wonderful too. Still need to try maca powder and read up on what the benefits of it are. Nom Nom. Thank you.

The smoothie looks wonderful. In Aruba I usually make tons of pineapple/banana concoctions b/c they just go down sooo good there.

Nothing like pointing your name servers and talking DNS and playing with FTP to really make you go a little bonkers. Or, okay, that stuff makes me go bonkers! Good luck with it!

I haven't had pineapple in so long! Love adding it to smoothies!

I have no idea how people can actually make websites. I'm so HTML illiterate - I just enjoy having someone else do it for me! You're a rockstar.

Oh wow good luck with the new web site and the smoothie sounds delicious. Congratz on the nomination :)

i still can't do the smoothie thing right now...too much sugar in the fruit...but i can't wait til summer when i can drink them all the time!

I love tropical smoothies, I will probably make it green! :)

February 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatalina @ Cake with Love

That looks delicious! Do you get canned pineapple and then get rid of the juice and freeze it, or cut up fresh pineapple and freeze it? Does it matter? Lucky for me, it's summer down under, and stinking hot, so I can't wait to try this! You seriously can't taste the spinach?

I loveee tropical smoothies with pineapple. This one looks awesome. Could you add something to one of your posts about maca and why you like it for us? I love learning about new ingredients and love hearing about it from people who actually use & like them. Congratulations on the nomination! You totally deserve it.

What is the new site for- photography?? Can't wait to see!

I have come across Maca a few times and am familar with its's 'superfood' status, but as yet i haven't used it so just wondered what it actually brings to a recipe- flavour, texture? what does it work best with? is it best used in raw foods only? sorry for these questions when you are so busy....maybe someone else who knows would also like to chime in? :-)

First of all, I am totally voting for your blog. If you can't tell by my post today, it's definitely one of my favorites (and fave recipes, period).
I can definitely put spinach into my smoothies, but can NOT get down with Maca powder. I bought a bag of it (which wasn't cheap!) and tried it 3 times. I could always taste it, and it made me want to gag. I ended up returning it (so happy they took it back) and just ordered some capsules instead. Hopefully I can get those down, because the benefits from Maca are what I need!
And what is this new site... did I miss something? :)

i've been on my new domain for almost a year, and i seriously still don't know what i'm doing. i'm sure theres an easier way to do things, and i don't even add tags or anything to posts, i just...post. haha! i'm so bad at it. slowly learning i suppose!

I have literally made this same exact version. It tastes like a pina colada meets a creamsicle, right? Such and awesome combo of flavors :)

I can empathize! I just started a new healthy living blog and think I spent at least 40 hours setting it up!! It was well worth it and in the end you can't help but to be proud for new knowledge! Ps- I gave you a shout out on today's post :) http://www.bellaspire.com/2012/02/28/march-photo-challenge/

This looks amazing and so refreshing!!

I've been craaaaaaaving smoothies lately. I think it's because I can feel spring coming...these sound absolutely delicious. I love the pineapple/orange combo and I bet the banana makes it super creamy. I definitely need to try this (ps - I just ordered buckwheat groats and I CANNOT wait to make your buckwheat bake when they arrive!!)

Congrats on your nomination!!! That is fantastic!

Also, I have those little smoothie glasses. Aaaand it's snowing here right now so I have no desire for a frozen drink, but JUST as soon as that sun peeks through, I am going to be allll over these. :-)

Perfect with yesterdays noodles...I can pretend I'm somewhere that isn't cold and snowy.

you're so cute...spinach can't hurt...i won't hold my breath for the day we hear reports that "spinach hurt"...okay okay I know I'm quirky

I recently discovered and fell in love with frozen pineapple in smoothies, so I have no doubt this is delicious. Where do you get your maca? Does it have any taste or is it disguised well enough in the smoothie? I've been thinking about trying it...

Congratulations on the nomination! It is definitely well deserved, and you have my vote!
Your smoothie looks wonderful! What a great combination of flavors. I haven't made a smoothie in so long! I really miss them, but it's been too cold to even think about drinking one. I may have to just bundle up and make this - I don't think I can wait for the warm weather!

February 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKerry

I bought my maca a long time ago. You are only supposed to use up to 1tsp a day. I've read using more doesn't have any benefit to your body. So the bag has lasted a long time. I bought Navitas Natural powdered maca. I've heard 2 people say they can't stand the taste, but I'm wondering if it's maca in some other form? I'm pretty sensitive to weird flavors, but to me, it's completely undetected in this smoothie. It actually has a nutty/caramel flavor to me.

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

Thanks lady! I LOVE Bodum glasses...all of them...LOVE!

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

Congrats on getting it up and running! Thanks so much for the shout out!

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

That's funny. I think it must be one of those ingredients you can either do or not-do. To me, it's 100% undectable in smoothies. I only use 1tsp and when I smell it in the bag it's like caramel/nutty. Sometimes I even mix it in to a glass with just milk + protein powder and don't notice it. One thing I can't handle is stevia!!! Haaaaate it!! I can detect it in the smallest amounts and the aftertaste is horrible. :) The new site is for this blog! Same domain, but it will look completely different!

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

Nope, it's the new and improved Edible Perspective!

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

I linked to some information on maca in this post, but probably won't get into it in detail. I'm not a certified nutritionist or doctor, so I don't always like to give the details on ingredients like this. I like to leave it up to the readers to research + decide if it's for them or not. :) Here is a link you can check out though - http://livesuperfoods.com/maca-powder.html

I found frozen pineapple at Whole Foods, for a great deal! You can probably just drain and freeze it from a can or freeze fresh. Or you can just add it without freezing, but maybe add a bit more ice.

February 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

Also, you can't taste the spinach at ALL! You must give green smoothies a try!
