laura + travis + tate [part 2]
May 7, 2012 Typically I keep portrait session blog posts on my photography website. However, since the first part of this story had quite the special meaning, I was eager to share more of Tate’s sweet little face.
I’ve been so lucky in getting to see Tate every week since he’s been born. He’s growing like a champ! These photos were taken about 3 weeks after he was born. Normally, you would want to take newborn photos anywhere from day 2-12, but since he was four weeks early we wanted to give him a little extra time to grow.
Laura + Travis are head over heals for this guy and seem so natural + relaxed as parents.
When I put Tate on his stomach he curled his legs up with no extra help from me. Precious.
Afternoon light flooded their living room.
Sweet mama + baby boy.
Family of three.
And just a little over one week later, Tate is noticeably bigger + more alert.
If you didn’t know, Laura + Travis are extremely talented photographers. It was a bit intimidating capturing them as a family, but I was honored to do so. I’m sure it was a nice break to not be the one behind the lens!
Congrats again to three of my favorites.

Ashley--> I actually just noticed part of that photo was cut off!! It's all fixed now. :)
Ashley--> Thanks, Jessy! I would probably just say practice and looking at tons of photography examples. I still have so much to learn!
Just wondering if there's a mid-priced camera you like? Your pics all look great, but I assume you're using a more expensive camera. Any advice you have would be great!
Ashley--> Actually, I only just now upgraded from a very beginner camera. The info for that camera is still on my FAQ page. It is about 5 years old. I am currently using the Canon 7d that we got a great deal on [refurbished through Canon]. Remember that quality lenses are much more important than camera bodies! :) I would start with looking at the Canon t3i. It's a slight step up from a beginner camera body, but worth the extra investment with it's video + other stellar capabilities. If you don't want video, check out the t3. Google for the differences between the 2 cameras. Also look into the Canon 60d. There are a few others as well. It just takes a LOT of time and research. My husband and I prefer to buy the cameras without the stock lens and then invest in lenses that are more worth the money. Stock lenses are just okay for general purpose and outdoor photography but are typically quite limited. I hope this helps get you started! :)
