The weekend started with a little live music.

Chatham County Line to be exact.

Completely blown away, yet again.

Then some adventuring around town with a good friend that was visiting for the weekend.

Saturday started with a nice 6 mile hike.

…and Rachel!  Rachel and I went to grad school together in Charlotte, NC and worked at the same architecture firm before I moved to Colorado.

So about that 6 mile hike…

It ended up turning into ELEVEN miles.

I take full responsibility as the trip planner.  Never trust me with a map.  Or in the mountains.  Or in the mountains without a map.

It was supposed to be a 6 mile out + back with a loop at the half way point.

mountains (11 of 16)

Well the loop was not part of the 6 miles.

The loop + the out and back part + the part where we made a wrong turn, where there weren’t supposed to be any turns to take [!!!] = 11+ miles

When we saw this view we knew something was wrong.  This was not the way we came in.

Luckily, there was only 1 other way we could go.  So we were quickly back on the right path.

After 3.5 hours we reached the car.  Good thing we packed lunch!

Sunday consisted of coffee with my friend Krista.  Fail on not actually getting a photo with Krista.

A bike ride with the husband.

Jelly legs between this ride + yesterday’s hike!

And finallyyy getting our garden started.

I bet you can’t guess what’s mixed with the soil!

And the weekend ended with loaded twice baked potatoes.

Busy + tiring, but relaxing.  If that makes sense…

Can I put this weekend on repeat?

So funny...I can totally identify with your hiking story! My fiancé and I did the same thing with our first few hikes at Horsetooth...makes a great story! :)

That looks like the perfect (albeit tiring ;)) weekend!

Ashley--> Yes, for sure!
Looks like such a great weekend! I too cannot be trusted with (or without!) a map. It's really so bad. Walks/runs/bike rides always end up much longer than I anticipated because I get lost. Haha.

And I didn't know you went to grad school in Charlotte!! Where did you go?!

Ashley--> I went to UNCC! We lived in Charlotte for 3 years. :)

So..... I totally should be able to guess what is in the soil... But I already forgot. I doooo know that it mats the soil together and makes it get better with age..

Looks like a fun packed weekend with so many great activities, can't wait to see your garden growing! have a nice week!
when we first moved to colorado i went hiking with my friend amy to bear peak in south boulder, but we went down a different way and were literally hiking for 8 hours straight. finally we just started climbing fences and walking across private property because it was the only way we could figure out to get back to her car!

Ashley--> Oh my word! I would have been crying!

I've definitely had my share of hikes that turned out to be WAY longer than I expected!! But your photos make me SO excited- I'll be out there in two days! I'm going out to Breck and Frisco on Thursday, but haven't decided where to hike on Friday (right now it's a toss-up between Golden Gate Canyon or El Dorado Canyon). Can't wait to breathe in that Colorado air!!
Whew - 11 is a lotta' miles to hike! At least you got to enjoy good company and gorgeous scenery.

Ashley--> So true! It was definitely enjoyed!
I don't know what's more impressive finding your way when lost in the mountains or hiking 11 miles in 3.5 hours? You must be tired! Did you have enough water? I am horrible with maps..thank God for GPS, but I imagine it wouldn't help me much in the mountains hah.

Ashley--> We booked it for quite a bit of the hike, especially on the way back! Rain clouds started to roll in, haha.

It sounds like it was a truly awesome weekend!!

Looks like quite the weekend! As long as you get back to the car in one piece than a little scenic detour is completely legit - or at least that is what I tell myself every time it happens. Yes, more than once!
