10 things worth noting

  1. Out of town guests love a hot breakfast accompanied by multiple nut butters.
  2. I love cooking for out of town guests.
  3. Behind the scenes tours at New Belgium Brewery are pretty rad.  Especially when you’re good friends with the guy giving the tour.
  4. New Belgium reminds me of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The only thing missing are the everlasting gobstoppers.
  5. Steamboat Springs, Colorado is magical.  And breathtaking.  And makes me feel like I’m dreaming.  Pinch me.
  6. Snowboarding through trees in knee-deep powder = my happy place.
  7. Bright colored ski jackets are where it’s at.
  8. After a full day on the slopes your stomach will turn into a bottomless pit.  Cooking a taco feast with friends is the only answer to that problem.
  9. Things are good.  No, wait.  They are pretty freaking great.
  10. Tomorrow there will be cake.

yum! and we got some snow this weekend, but NOTHING like in your photos! looks like you had a blast!
I'm so glad to see a ski post! I really enjoyed reading about your snowy adventures each week last season. That cake looks SO good. I'm looking forward to the recipe!

The snow is absolutely beautiful in these photos, it almost makes me happy that it's winter! I don't blame your guests for loving a breakfast with multiple nut-butters. I would love it as well. :)

Look at all that powder! I can't wait to be in a place where I'm a bit closer to a snowboarding weekend!

Awesome pictures Ashley! I had so much fun riding with you. Knee deep in powder with neon jackets is where it is at. My stomach was definitely a bottomless pit yesterday too!

Steamboat is one of my favorite places on EARTH. Meeker's roommate in college had a house there, and we used to go as much as much as humanly possible back (way back) in those days.

And I'm pretty pumped about that cake. You've been teasing me with the mention of it's existence for more than a WEEK now. Bring it.

Really lovely photos! Looks like a great day. I'm wondering what kind of camera you used?

I hadn't really missed skiing until I read this - now I want to shred a little too!

I recently found your site, and I've decided if I could have a personal chef, I'd choose you! Love your recipes. LOVE.
I'm a Colorado native (yes, I have the bumper sticker :)) but haven't lived there since 2005 (I've been in Pennsylvania, Uganda, and now Oregon). I will ALWAYS miss the Colorado mountains (summer, winter, spring, fall...doesn't matter--they always have something that calls to me). Your photos are making the Colorado hole in my heart ache. Ah!

Great photos! Were they all taken with your phone? I miss snowboarding, I should really get back into it ...especially because it is necessary to have a huge feast after ;)

@Adrienne - The snow was really bad early this season, so we've only been out a handful of times. Hence the lack of ski posts. :) Glad you enjoy them, though!

@Erin - Come visit anytime!

@Lauren - SO much fun!!

@Katie - Sorry to be such a tease. ;) hehe Steamboat for the win. Seriously, ah-mazing!

@Katie - I used my iPhone and actually took about half of the snow photos while I was snowboarding. Probably not the smartest thing to do while riding through trees. :)

@Courtney - Aw, thank you! I'm so glad my recipes are up your alley! You have lived all over. Very cool! Thanks for saying hello.

@Megan - Yes, all with the iPhone!

Your excitement in this email is contagious! Something about other people, even people you only know virtually, sharing their happiness and joy in life just lifts the spirits. Glad to hear your life is freakin' great...and that you'll be sharing that cake recipe!! Cheers!

carrot carrot carrot cake!!!
Carrot cake?? YUM!!!

Those slopes are gorgeous. I am right with you with being starved by the time you get off the slopes.
Looks like the most amazing weekend:) Your pictures are beautiful! And I'm impressed that you were brave enough to snap them while boarding! I see that Chris was skiing, does he prefer skiing or snowboarding better?

My husband LOVES New Belgium Ranger IPA. We might have to take a vacation to Colorado just to tour that brewery! :)
February 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda Thompson
@Lauren - Aw, thank you for the sweet comment. I'm glad my happiness comes across so well!

@Casey Ann - I LOVE snowshoeing, so I'll have to check out vista verde. Thanks!

@Hillary + Christina - Yes! Carrot cake!

@Andrea - Chris switched to skiing about 2 years ago and is totally hooked! It came to him so quickly. I'm going to stick with my snowboard, though. :)

@Amanda - Colorado is a great place to visit! There more breweries per capita in Ft. Collins than anywhere else in the country. I think there are 13 total! Pretty nuts.
